How to convert MP3 to MIDI

Three steps once uploads open:

  1. Step 1

    Upload your audio

Choose an MP3 or another common audio file — WAV, FLAC, M4A or OGG.

  2. Step 2

    Preview the notes

See the detected notes on a piano roll and listen to them before you download anything.

  3. Step 3

    Download the MIDI file

Open it in FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, GarageBand or any DAW and edit it like any other MIDI clip.

Best results & limitations

Works best with

  • One instrument or one voice at a time
  • Solo piano, guitar, a sung, hummed or whistled melody
  • Clean recordings without background music or noise

Expect a draft when

  • The audio is a full song with drums, bass and vocals
  • Many instruments play in the same range
  • The recording is noisy — check and fix the notes in your DAW

Who uses MP3 to MIDI

Producers

Pull a melody or bass line out of a sketch, a voice memo or a sample and keep working on it in your DAW.

Learners

Slow a passage down, see which notes are played and practise them on your instrument.

Arrangers

Get a first MIDI draft of a tune, then fix the notes and re-orchestrate it for other instruments.

Full-song, multi-instrument MIDI is coming

We are working on splitting a whole song into separate MIDI tracks for each instrument. Leave your email to hear when it is ready.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert an MP3 to MIDI here today?

Not yet. Uploads open soon. Until then you can listen to real before-and-after examples on this page and leave your email to be told when the converter goes live.

Will it be free?

Yes. Converting and previewing will be free with a daily limit, and you will not need an account.

What kind of audio works best?

A single instrument or a single voice: solo piano, guitar, a sung or hummed melody. Clean recordings without background music give the most accurate notes.

Can it turn a full song into MIDI?

A full mix with drums, bass and vocals will only give a rough draft. Separating a full song into one MIDI track per instrument is planned as a separate feature — leave your email in the section above to hear when it is ready.

Which file formats will be supported?

MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A/AAC and OGG, up to 5 minutes and 25 MB per file.

What happens to the files I upload?

Uploaded audio and the MIDI result will be deleted automatically within 48 hours. We use them only to run the conversion.

How were the examples made?

Each example clip was converted automatically by the transcription model the converter will use (Basic Pitch), with settings for the instrument and an automatic clean-up of very short and stray notes. Nobody edited the MIDI by hand, so it shows the real quality you can expect.
